Reprint licenses allow you to copy or reproduce the product, sell it and keep all the money. With a reprint license you get master copies of the product which you can use to reproduce the product. You can get reprint licenses for manuals, reports, video tapes, audio tapes, e-books,etc.
There are two types of reprint licenses - the Basic reprint license and the Master reprint license. Let's take a look at each of these and see what you get:
(1)When you get a Basic reprint license, you get permission to reproduce and sell the product(s). You keep all the money. You don't owe any other royalties or fees to anyone. Basic reprint license holders can only reproduce and sell the product, they may not sell any licenses for the product.
(2)When you get a Master reprint license, you can reproduce and sell the product and you can also sell basic reprint licenses for that same product. You keep all the money for any products or licenses you sell. So, a Master license gives you two streams of income - one stream from the products you sell and the second stream from the licenses you sell.
Please remember that Master license holders can't sell Master Licenses, only Basic Reprint licenses. Master licenses can only be sold by the copyright owner who is usually the person who produced the product.
For resale licenses,when you purchase a resale license you do not get permission to reproduce the product(s). You do not get master copies of the products. Instead, you get the opportunity to sell the product(s) at a very substantial discount. When you make a sale, you send the name and address of the buyer to the person who sold you the resale license. You also send that person the wholesale price of the product. You keep the rest of the money. The person who sold you the resale license will then ship the product to your customer.
In general, resale licenses are cheaper to purchase than reprint licenses because you get to keep less of the money from each sale. But resale licenses are an excellent way to provide you money and try out this whole idea of licensing.
